
On July 26, 2025, at the esteemed Nelson Mandela Peace Award ceremony held at Bishwa Shahitay Kendra in Dhaka, Bangladesh, Dr. Tufael received one of the highest accolades in the medical laboratory field: the Excellence in Laboratory Hero Award. Organized by the New Generation Forum Bangladesh, the event brought together distinguished professionals from across the nation to honor outstanding achievements in diverse sectors including healthcare, science, entrepreneurship, and the arts.
Dr. Tufael, a prominent biochemist affiliated with the Ibn Sina Diagnostic and Imaging Center in Dhaka and a Ph.D. graduate from Parul University, India, was celebrated for his groundbreaking research in the early detection of Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC). His pioneering work in identifying novel biological markers has significantly advanced the accuracy and timeliness of liver cancer diagnosis. By enhancing early detection capabilities, Dr. Tufael’s research offers critical hope for improved patient outcomes, marking a major breakthrough in clinical biochemistry and cancer diagnostics.
The 2025 Nelson Mandela Peace Award ceremony featured a vibrant assembly of accomplished individuals from various districts of Bangladesh, showcasing excellence not only in healthcare but also in business innovation, social service, literature, and the arts. Other distinguished award recipients included Dilruba Parveen Laki and Mahfuza Aktar, recognized for their entrepreneurial achievements; Masud Mahatab for social service; Pulsen Roy, Sabuj Roy, and Mahmudul Hasan Shanto for their literary and artistic contributions; alongside numerous poets, researchers, volunteers, and journalists. Amid this diverse and competitive cohort, Dr. Tufael’s scientific innovation and real-world impact in medical laboratory science truly stood apart. The awards were presented across 10 categories, honoring 15 individuals and 3 organizations.
Dr. Tufael’s contributions have revolutionized diagnostic laboratory practices across Bangladesh. At the Ibn Sina Diagnostic Center, his leadership has spearheaded the implementation of high-precision diagnostic protocols, significantly improving the speed and reliability of patient testing. The award ceremony was inaugurated by Mr. Amjad Hossain, Chairman of New Generation Forum Bangladesh. The chief guest was the renowned actor Khalilur Rahman Qaderi, while the keynote speech titled “The Remarkable and Eventful Life and Work of Nelson Mandela” was delivered by Dr. S. M. Shahnoor, an internationally acclaimed poet, distinguished researcher, and Literary Editor of the government-registered national daily Oishi Bangla. Also in attendance was special guest Mr. Rakib Ali, Director General of New Generation Forum Bangladesh. The selection committee unanimously praised Dr. Tufael’s work, highlighting its excellence, innovation, and societal significance.
